I am amazed at the way people earn a living here. There are not many jobs so people use their imagination to create many types of jobs. Some jobs that have amazed me are people who carry cartoons of eggs to sell, bags of water, brooms, and many others. Below are a few pictures of what people do here. The average person makes $5/day.
A tire store.
People use fire to cook, so these people sell pieces of wood.
People use horse carts for transportation and in this store they sell horse food.
Empty lots are used to grow lettuce and are usually watered by drawing water from a well and watering with buckets often when temperature is 35C.
This guy is selling bags for when people buy things in the market.
A fruit stand.
Some of these fishing boats will go out to the ocean for a couple of months.
A broom seller.
Selling strawberries. Excellent balancing skills.
A wood carver.
Selling jewellery on the beach.

presents from Canada
So teck decks are quite a common sight at Wapanohk School but these kids had no idea what to do with these strange objects. Rob showed them a few tricks and their faces lit up with the hugest smiles and then the show started! So much fun to watch.

Playing soccer with the boys
Just a little intro: Nicole (my sister-in-law) answers her door everyday at around 1:00pm to give a little treat to boys that are sent away from their families to learn the Koran but also spent the majority of their days begging. Many do not know their family and often do not return.
I brought a soccer ball and a basketball to Senegal in hopes of getting to play a bit and be involved in the kids' life. We told a few kids to come and 30 came
The kids are coming!
After the game we had cookies and water.
And if they already had a cookie and you offer another they will be so honest to tell you that they already had one.

We are playing on the street like kids do in Canada. The kids' feet are so tough as there is glass and thorns in the sand. They don't have shoes. |

Traditional baby carrier. Wasn't Lily's favorite.
Strolling by the monkeys.
Pretty bird.
Ellana and Nicole say these guys can jump out of the water. Almost lost a limb.

The market
Clothes shopping!
Lily needs a little snack.
Walking on the shells to the fishing port.
Fish of all kinds.
More fish!
Hundreds of people selling their fish on tables or the ground along the shore.
